RE: My Dream Rifle
Browning has a stainless Stalker with the box mag that is mounted to a hinged floor plate and that might be as close as I get for under $700. The Christianson Arms has that same Browning with a carbon-wrapped barrel for $1,500 in either 300 WSM or UM. I've heard and read that the 300 WSM is very accurate due to the case shape (35 degree shoulder) and that design also helps with efficiency use of powder as well.
Anyone have good info on good handloads for the WSM? I would probably use a 180g Partition. What speeds are you getting with that load? Power http://www.powerandfury.net/hunt.html ![]() |

The magnums don't come with the detachable mag, only a standard one. Thanks for the tip. Anyone else have a sub-$1,500 solution? Power http://www.powerandfury.net/hunt.html ![]() |
RE: My Dream Rifle
Power,
Are you sure about the Sako's? A friend has a 375 with the detachable mag. I thought he said that Sako had the detachable option on all their rifles. In looking at the Sako site the 75 comes with fixed or detachable mag. no mention of caliber restriction and the 375 is a longer cartridge. Quote "Sako 75 is available in top loading fixed or detachable 2-row staggered magazine. The magazine follower is made of aluminium to ensure faultless operation. The outer liner of the magazine is made of stailess steel and the magazine can be loaded through the ejection port on top of the rifle." End-quote The above is from the Sako page uder the Features link at the top. Unless you just don't want to spend that much money I'd talk to a Sako dealer. My 2 cents! RE: My Dream Rifle
The Ultra mags are hinged floor plates only in the Sako.

Power, Are you sure about the Sako's?<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote> I appreciate your help Greg. You have to open the .pdf document on the tech. specs for that little tidbit of info. It looks like just the UM are affected. Since I'm buying a brand new rifle might as well get just what I want. Browning is the closest with a 300 WSM with a detachable internal magazine. They retail around $900. I'm sure Remington or Winchester will offer a comparrable rifle next year if they are smart. I wrote to all the big 3 about this and they were close-lipped about next years production, some marketing mumbo jumbo. I guess I'll have to wait until next season and look at my options then. RE: My Dream Rifle
Shooter said "if you hit an animal with the 300 Ultra Mag you don't have much of an animal left"
Shooter where are you hitting your animals. I suggest not shooting the hind, the loins or the front shoulders of the animals. This might help your "animal left" thing. Shot a deer with mine last year just to throw some blood on it. Hit right thru both lungs. Guess what. No meat damage. guess why. Shot placement. Couldn't eat the heart however. Probably shouldn't anyway over the cholesteral thing. |
RE: My Dream Rifle
Power,
Did you remember which pdf you found that tidbit in? You have got me curious. I searched this document http://sako2.nitrofx.com/sako/pdf/ma...ako75kc_rh.pdf and they say repeatedly that ALL models can have the hindged floow plate or the detachable magazine and are changeable after the fact. Please let me know Thanks! Greg "Getting close to the game is the joy of Bowhunting for me, the harvest is a bonus." ![]() Live 15 ft Python after eating a small Antelope! |
RE: My Dream Rifle
Here ya go;
http://sako2.nitrofx.com/sako/pdf/sp...cStainless.pdf I followed that link you sent me and clicked on the Technical Specifications link that took me to that .pdf. States all rifles come with the detachable mag EXCEPT the Rem. Ultra Mags which come with a hinged floor plate magazine only. I still might check out that rifle in a .300 WSM. I'm starting to lean toward that caliber instead. The Sako might be a good option if they offer that caliber. I've also been looking at the Howa rifles and they are supposed to be very good for much less than the big 3. Might be an option too. Power http://www.powerandfury.net/hunt.html ![]() |
