I'm keeping my .30-06.....and many others would be well advised to do so as well.........More is not always better.....and I'd certainly advise that while it's doubtfully usable it certainly can be negative.....If you can't do it with a .30-06 you need to move up to the .338 Magnum or even the .375 H&H

I understand what everyone i saying......and in terms of other guns being capable of taking all the game in NA i couldnt agree more......it think this caliber is just very unique and the fact that everyone has a .300mag.....i think maybe i just want a different gun....
How do you say .30-378 wby mag anyways??
I know a .30-06 is (30 odd 6)......but is it the same with this??

barbs, have to agree with Drift and ELKIN, but if that's what you want no body is
going to stop you. Give it some thought!
At 50lbs of recoil is like someone hauling a 50lb bag of cow feed at you,but more solid!

You would be better off with a .300 Win Mag because the 30-378 recoil is almost un-imaginable. The .300 Win Mag will do it to it to anything in the WORLD. I think it was Elmer Keith that hunted elephant with a 7mm mauser, now thats sayin that size dont matter in the gun world.

What a 30/06 will do at 300 yards, the 300 WSM .300 Win Mag will do at 400 yards, the .300 Weatherby can do at 500 yards, the .300 Ultra Mag can do at 600, the 30-378 can do at 700. Few can take advatage of the ballistic superiority of the .300 Win Mag much less any of the others. If one wants to shoot at extreme ranges, so be it. No skin off my a##. Not my cup of tea. The 30/06 is enough if you are going to hunt the Lower 48. 30/06 is enough if one is going to hunt Alaska w/o the big bears. Ed Stevenson, a guide in Alaska, stated in this issue of "Successful Hunting" he wants his BROWN BEAR clients to bring their 30/06 loaded with 200 grain partions to hunt with. The hunter would be more likely to make a killing shot. Is there a reason for the 30-378? Yes, to sell more rifles. Can most utilize the 30-378? NO!!!!! I used to shoot silihoutes at 500 meters (re:550 yards). I wouldn't shoot an unwounded game animal at over 300 yards. That's just me.

Elmer Kieth hated smaller calibers. He used a .500 Jeffery for Elephants. WDM Bell used a 7x57 to kill the Big Five in Africa. We're talking a 1000 elephants.

WDM Bell also used 6.5x54 Mannlicher, but at real close range and frontal brain shot!

Rebel Hog,
You are understanding what I am saying. If you shoot an elk at 700 yards in rough country, it could spoil before you get to it. I see no need for this caliber. That's me. Some one else may love it. America is great because we can waste our money however we want.
