I am a beggining deer hunter. This will be my first year so I need a good gun... I heard that a 7mm would take down any big game that I want. I would like the gun in near perfect condition. Price of gun SHOULD be under $150... I MIGHT nagotiate the price.

Its not all the gun that will take Big Game down, Its the shooter as well, A guy locally shot last year up in Alaska, Brown bear with a 270 Weatherby......Like i said Its the Shooter as much as the gun to drop Big game, If i was you go Half way & get something in a 30 Cal, Like a Remington 300 Ultra mag at the least, Light grain bullet for smaller game like whitetail Etc & heavier grain bullet for Mule deer & brown bear......But They list around $600.00 New ..........If your shooting Deer with a shotgun, Theres a Gun on the market around $189.00 With good reviews in GunsandAmmo Magizine , seen it in December 2004 Magazine, Or just check out GunsandAmmo homepage will guide you to the correct area.
Good luck

mixerdriverm,
Why will the .300rum ruin my shooting? Also I am looking into getting a .30-06... Is this a good gun for big game hunting. I need a caliber that will take an elk or a deer down quickly and humanely. Anyone may responde to this message.

If you are a new shooter the 300RUM can ruin your shooting due to the large recoil from this caliber. It has a big punch and to a novice shooter it can cause bad habits like flinching and poor form.If you are an accomplished shooter and can handle the recoil more power to ya!If not the 30 06 or the 7mm will work fine for what you will hunt. There is no magic caliber, bullet or rifle that will kill quickly and fast as you stated that comes from being proficent with your firearm and good shot placement the rest will happen naturally

Well, hello there neighbor. I see you are in Longmont. I am in Brighton. Well, anyway if you are a beginer to shooting a .300 rum is a lot of gun. However if you are already a shooter just getting into hunting I defiently say go with a .300 for all your hunting needs. That is what I shoot. 30-06 is a good round however it does not have the punch at the distances that a .300 does.
