Default 7400 CARBINE IN .280

GUYS,
I PICKED UP A REMINGTON 7400 CARBINE IN 280 REMINGTON OVER THE WEEKEND. I HAVE SEARCHED AND SEARCHED AND CAN'T FIND THIS GUN LISTED IN ANY REMINGTON CATALOG OR SPECIAL RUN. THE GUN IS NIB AND SERIAL SAYS IT WAS MADE IN 2003. ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS RIFLE? ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

Try contacting Remington customer service. They should be able to tell you how many
were made, if a special run or not, or who made for, etc.

VIGINIA7,
I DID THAT. THE RESPONSE WAS THAT IT WAS MADE IN 2003. THEY REFUSED TO SAY IN WHAT QUANTITY THIS RIFLE WAS MADE. I THINK THE EXACT RESPONSE WAS THAT MANUFACTURING NUMBERS WERE CLASSIFIED INFORMATION.

I don't know how many they made but they chambered it in both the Pump and the Auto. I have seen quite a few of them used in gun shops. I think they chambered it several different years.

They started making 742's in 280 back in late 60's on and off. That is why the 280 was so underloaded for such a long time and the brass was a bit sloppy.

OLDELK,
THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT. I KNOW THEY MADE THE 740, 742, AND 7400 IN 280 OVER THE YEARS. THE LAST TIME THEY CHAMBERED A 7400 IN 280 WAS SUPPOSEDLY 1995. THIS GUN, HOWEVER WAS MADE IN 2003 AND IS A CARBINE (18 1/2 IN BARREL)
I CAN'T FIND OUT ANYTHING ON THIS GUN THROUGH REMINGTON CUSTOMER SERVICE OR SPECIAL RUN INFO. I WAS JUST WONDERING WHERE IT CAME FROM. I GUESS I'LL CHALK IT UP AS A MYSTERY RIFLE.

I had a 30-06 Carbine. They are a sweet handling good shooting gun. The 280 is an excellent and very under rated rifle. You have made a good choice. I am sure there were not many carbines made in that caliber.
