I have been looking at the kimber montanas for a while now and I thought I wanted a 270wsm.Well I really still do,but I got to hold my first kimber 84 montana, and it feels much better than the 8400.So,I was thinking about getting it in a 7mm-08.It will be a white tail only gun under 200 yards(more likely under 100 yards).Questions, will this be enough gun and second .Do the hornady light mags really give as much performance as they claim.

In my experience no Light Magnum ammo is worth the effort. If you don't think a 7-08 is big enough for a deer you have been taking some posters here too seriously or reading too many articles written by Craig Boddington.

Very well put! Way too many folks have this "magnumitis" syndome that causes them to actually believe that unless a cartridge is a super-duper-short-magnified-magnum it's useless for today's game. When did game animals get tougher skin/hides?
The 7-08 is an excellant whitetail cartridge. Heck, I know of a woman that dropped a moose with a 7-08.

yeah a 7MM will definatly do the job, a buddy of mine uses his for moose and has great success with is and a deer isnt nearly as big, so i say go for it. like maine shooter says dont listen to everyone on here, and put it this way, all the magnums are starting to become popular nowadays, but what did they use in the good ol days? the magnums arnt really necessary, i use a 30-06 for everything and it aint no magnum.

Thanks guys, that is what I thought. And I allready have a 7mm rem mag anyway.I am just looking for the ultimate light weight gun.Well for a reasonable price.I can get the montana for 899,so that is what I will probly get.A montana in 7mm-08 topped with a zeiss 3.5x10x44.I know that is a big scope but I should still be at or around 6.5 pounds with that set up.
