Its built on a 98 mauser, and if you look in POAckleys book,Im sure you heard of him?Volume 11,page 161 youll find the load you were talkling about. 139 gr bullet. 55grs of 4350 powder== 3250 fps velocity.
I'm quite familiar with Parkers loads. He published whatever loads the wildcat proponent sent him. He didn't test them. Most are exagerations of the highest order. I'm aware of his efficiency theories too, but there is no way you can exceed the velocity of a load using 10 grains LESS powder in a different case.

Hello OldelkHunter,

Have one in Ruger M77...As for accurate, the Swed's won one of the oylimpics with it!
The older I get the more I like. The recoil is very comfortable. It's a tack driver!.....I use 140gr also have Norma Alaskan for
heavier game. IT works for me!!!.....Everyone has thier opinions!

That doesn't seem too hot at all. A case that size could easily handle that many grains of 4350, IMR or Hodgdon. I am looking at the numbers for the 284 Winchester, 130 grain bullet, 54-58 grains for IMR 4350, and the 145 grain bullet is 52-56 grains of IMR 4350. 55 grains in the 6.5 with a 139 grain bullet should be close to max, but still slightly under.
These numbers came out of Speer #12.

EDIT---After looking at Hodgdon's website, that is pretty hot, so I would have to say that was IMR 4350, rather than H4350. Could you clarify on that please.

Just off the top of my head, Charlie, I believe H4350 is slower than IMR or AA4350. In fact, H4350 gives pretty much the same performance as IMR 4831.

Anyone shoot one of these and if so what gun, barrel length etc. Thanks

Yes,Ruger M77 ....22" barrel........as for penertration, MR.Bell killed over 1000 elephants with 6.5x55Sed. and
7x57Mauser.....But, MR.Bell was a perfect placement shooter!!!
What I'm tring to point out here is for the Bullet size, it has tremendous penetration and [BC]...

William Dalyrmple Maitland Bell, never saw a 6.5x55. He used a .256 Mannlicher, which is how the British gun makers labeled their firearms by bore diameter. He most likely had a Belgian military rifle chambered for 6.5x53R as that was the basis for most of the ones made by firms like Purdy. It had a little thinner rim than it's twin the 6.5x53R used by Serbia. Bell didn't like the 6.5 for elephants he said the 160 grain full metal jacket bullets bent, and didn't stay on a straight line through the honeycomb bones of an elephants head.

As for readin' you might want to try and remember what it was you did read.
