ORIGINAL: oldelkhunter

They just chamber short mags and short calibers 243 260 308 and 7-08
Say I was absolutely sold on Kimber and still like and know .270, which one of these is closest to .270?

For me, the real comparison & choice would be between the Kimber Montana & the Sako Finnlite. Now that's a tough choice and I'm not sure which one I would choose. I consider those two to be about the same quality.

It comes in a 270wsm,7wsm,and a 300wsm.also.the 84 is the standard and the 8400 is the mags. There is about 1 lb. difference.

I agree with Swiss, I prefer the Sako-Finnlight or the Kimber-Montana. BUT I spent several hours behind a 300SAUM Titanium 700 lastyear at a Remington dealer meet. The gun felt equally awesome. I'm can't remember for sure which ones will be intro'ed but some of the 700 line is getting the 270WSM and 300WSM for 05. If not the Titanium this year I bet it will be on line for nextyear. It's a neat gun and NOT anything like the plain jane old 700ADL Synthetic (which aint a bad rifle in the first place if you ask me).

The Kimber just FEEEEELS so damned good tho!!! :)

What would be a good price on the montana? There is only 1 dealer around me that carries them, and he is asking 1044 for the 8400?Well I guess there is only 1 dealer around.

Never had a Kimber rifle but I have never had a bad Remington. Therefore I will stay with them until they do me wrong.

I've got a Kimber 8400 Classic on my wish list for this year. With a daughter in college, though, I'm probably going to have to sell one of my other guns to make it happen.

I was curious about those "match grade" barrels and emailed Kimber. They sent me a nice reply stating that their barrels were button rifled. I was glad to hear that since the only hammer forged barrels I've had that are worth a darn are the Sakos.

Totally agree. I wonder who makes them for them? Savage still button rifles theirs too.
