I guess I didn't point that out in my first post, but Yes, the energy of the .357mag is the limiting factor. I shoot long range rifle-pistol caliber side matches at Cowboy action shoots with a .357mag from time to time, out to 200yrds occasionally. I practice a bit at that range, moreso at the more common 100yrds. I practice with much smaller targets that are used in matches, typically 8-12" targets are used (9-10targets total, some shooters can make all of these shots in under 8 seconds)...I practice with 4" targets at 100yrds. I can usually make 9 hits on a bank of five targets, left to right and back left, in under 20sec.
At 200yrds, I typically use 10" targets for practice, the same left to right to left sweep takes me about 25-30 sec if I hit all of them, but I can do it in 20 sec if I'm satisfied with missing one (I always miss the first one coming back left for some reason).
Making accurate hits with this round isn't the problem, it's the energy it carries when it gets there.
