I have not had personal experience with the ballistic silvertip but i haev seen a comirshaw by winchester that says more and more deer and falling to that type of bullet. i would guess it is good on deer.

I replied in the deer hunting forum.

I think it would be an excellent choice.

they kill deer great just not a very good close range bullet..... they tend to explode at ranges 75 yards or closer and wreck alot of meat. Every deer I have taken beyond 100 yards with them the bullets do there job and leave a nice exit hole but at close ranges the bullets fragment I recovered little bits of copper and small parts lead of one from a 60 yard shot on a doe destroyed alot of meat when I processed it I should have gotten 50 lbs of meat off her but only got 30 lbs just to give you an idea of howmuch meat was no good.

I have used the bullet and caliber extensively. I highly recommend it.
I now shoot the 168gr. in my Ruger .308 I'm getting 1/4in groups at 200yds.
All the Deer I've shot dropped in their tracks.
I've hunted Maine, Connecticut, North Carolina

Good luck,

so do you all think the 168gn bullets will hold together better than the 150gn at shorter dictances or would they have the same ufect?

I too shoot a 308 and yes the 168's hold together better its what I switched to after the 150's.
the 150's held tighter groups about a .5 inches at 100 yards, but the 168 grainer still held a decent group on average of about an inch to an inch and a half still more then plenty accurate for deer hunting.

Now I reload for my 308 and still use that combine technology 168 grain ballistic tip aka ballistic silvertip but also load the sierra 165 grain BTHP gameking I bounce back and forth depending on how Im feeling about one or the other.
