Default What are the most accurate factory rounds?

I have a 30-06 and so far I have found that the Federal Premiums in 180 grain Noslers to be the most accurate of the rounds I have fired. What do you guys and gals think are the most accurate from experience? Thanks to all replies!!

IMHO Federal & Hornady are equal when it comes to factory accurracy. Both give fantastic performance once you find the load that shoots out of a particular rifle. I found overall qaulity control lacking in Winchester and Remington offerings. I want ammo to give me 3/4" groups @100 yds anything more is not acceptable. It's been my experience that while one box of W & R might give me that the next box can't. After putting alot of factory fodder thru a chrony I've found Federal and Hornady to have no significant F.P.S. difference from round to round and box to box while W&R might average as much as 150 F.P.S. difference in a box.

There is no such thing as the most accurate factory round for all guns. Some guns will shoot better with hornady's,some with remingtons, some with winchesters. Each gun has it's preference and the only way to discover what your gun prefers is by shooting several different loads and comparing them.

Every gun is different, but I've found the majority of the time that Federal Premium will shoot the best out of factory loadings. I'd give Hornady a close second.

Whatever shoots the best out of your gun is the most accurate.

The only way to find out what is most accurate is to shoot them from your rifle. Some guys like blondes, some like brunettes, and some like redheads. Same thing with rifles, what works for one won't work at all for another. That's why lots of us handload, it's much easier to find a load your rifle likes by handloading.

TruthSeeker, I know what your asking without getting into the whole philosophical answer. What ammo IMHO probably performs the best in most guns? Right?

I would say hands down, it goes to Federal and Hornady. I have measured thier ammo and their brass (federal that is) and it is very uniform and quality very good. You do need to shoot several of thier offerings however, but almost always thier Sierra bullets shine thru over the bearclaws, barnes, or any other. I hear people say all the time, that Coreloks shoot the best out of their gun. But usually these people have never tried anything else. I have wieghed coreloks bullets and thier standard deviation in wieght and shape is huge. Then to top it off, the brass is worse. The shoulders are all over the place and the flash holes need to be deburred. I bet at there ammo plant in arkansas, they use this same brass that I get from them without reuniforming or deburring that flash hole.

Lastly, for weatherby rounds, I notice that weatherby ammo does the best. I think they must use a blend of powders to reach thier velocity out of thier guns. Cause, its hard to match the factory numbers and the overall quality seems good.

I think if your asking about accuracy relating to ammunition manufacturers than I think that you have to try different brands and bullets within those brands and see what works best. Big Country brought up a good point and that is quality of ammo leaving factory if one were to look there than Weatherby Ammo(Norma) is the finest available followed probably by Federal and Hornady. I have been having real good results with Winchester Failsafe,Ballistic Silvertip and Powerpoint in a 270,300 wsm and a 308 lately bottom line your going to have to experiment .

If your talking inherent accuracy and meant for a big game rifle look at anything built on the 308(243,260,7-08,358) case or 06(270 280) case for starters. The 300 wsm,300 win mag and 7 mag,338 are all great shooters. Weatherbys because of that darn long throat tend not to be as accurate but that can be remedied in a factory cartridge. Antyhting bigger then the cartridges I mentioned than Others on this board that have experience with the larger cartridges can give their 2 cents.
