They say you can't buy ammmo for handguns unless you are 21, yet you are able to walk into Wal-Mart and buy a pack of 9mm Luger rounds or even .22LR for your handgun after answering the magic question: "Is it for a rifle or pistol?"
Is this a leak in the system or is my local Wal-Mart breaking federal laws?

18 to buy rifle ammo and 21 to buy hand gun ammo.
Some ammo like the .22 rim fires, 9mm, 44 mags, 357 mag, 480 Ruger, 45 LC, etc... can be chambered in a hand gun or rifle.
They have to ask so they cover their buts. That's why it comes up automatically on the register.

Ah, the good old loop hole in the 'system' *sigh*!
I was shocked when she asked me if the pack of 7mm Remington Magnums I was buying was for a hand gun or rifle
I looked at the package and started laughing....noting that she still wanted an answer I stopped and told her: "Rifle".

The rifle or pistol question is fair assuming you will answer it truthfully. This is a LIBERALS assumption that criminals will tell the truth. If you are only 18 and lie to get pistol ammo this makes you a criminal also.
