I had a similar dilema when I wanted to get a deer rifle. I wanted either a 243 or 30-06, but planned to elk hunt sometime in the future so ended up getting a 300 win mag, the 7mm will be just as good too.

what are the average velocities for both? i read a chart somewhere saying that a 7mm mag was capable of killing large game over 500 yards, where a 30-'06 was only capable of large game up to 410 or something. ill try and find it. it also said the mag has a 200 + fps on it.

that will give you all teh recoil infromation u will need
i personally would chose a 270 or a 308.

I've shot deer with both, and you nor the deer will ever know the difference. I prefer the 30-06 b/c factory ammo is cheaper.
Both are good for any animal in North America; yes, even the biggest of bears. Forget ballistics... their killing power on all animals is virtually identical.
