Default Winchester Model 88

I recently inherited a Winchester model 88 in .308 caliber . Does anyone else use this model? If so, what are your thoughts on the gun.

The 88 was revolutionary for its debut. These are good rifles and many are surprisingly accurate. The most common chambering is for the 308. My Dad has one in 284 Winchester. His will drive tacks with 140 gr. Ballistic Tips in his own handloads. The 88 balances well is fast handling with smooth operation. The triggers usually aren't the greatest but can be cleaned up a little by a competent gunsmith. I think you will like the rifle and if you don't they are sought after on the used market. An 88 in 98% condition has some decent value on the used market even chambered for the 308.

My brother in-law has one in .308 that he inherited from his grandfather. It's a very accurate rifle that has accounted for several whiteail. I wish I had one. They are becoming a collectors item and prices are quite high.

That rifle is a real shooter and will probably group under an inch with good handloads and a good scope. It's a quick handling rifle and the .308 Winchester is a great cartridge for this rifle.

The model 88 IMO is the best lever action made, I got mine in 98%+ condition from my grandpa and I absolutely love it. I get best results with Hornady light mag sst loads out of it, the groups are about 1/2" center to center. someday I plan on owning a .243, 284 and 358 chambered in it.
