Default Concealed weapon ???????

I will soon be getting a concealed weapon permit and will be(probably)carrying the new Kahr 9mm for size considerations. My question is this.I have been told that instead of getting a Louisiana permit,I should apply for a Florida license due to the fact that is is accepted in more states and is valid for a longer time.
Any comments??

I believe that you have to be a resident of the state in which you are applying for your permit in.

Keylargo, I've had a Florida CCW since 1987 when they were offered to the average Joe Citizen. You do not have to be a Florida Resident to get a FL CCW.Our permits are good for 5 years now instead of the original 3 years. It's around 65.00 to renew them and have to submit and new photo each time you renew. Our permits are honored in several states and FL will honor others. If I were you I would see how long a out of state permit is honored in Louisiana. There maybe a time limit that you need to get a LA permit within 60 days.I would definitely check LA's laws before getting the FL permit. It might end up being a waste of money in your home state.Good luck and happy packin' Ruger Redhawk

In wv to get permit you pay 40$ nra safety class,30$ state police background check and 60$ to the county sheriff. Its good for 5 yr.When you renew we still have to pay 30$ for another background check and 60 to the sheriff..

Very true propmahn.
You Hoosiers are getting a bargain!
But then again, down here in Florida we really have to be prepared for the worst, since we have uglier targets to shoot at (like Janet Reno <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> )!!!!

I wish I had this delema. Wisconsin will be voting the concealed weapons bill down once again. We are one of six states left that still has not approved it. I can't understand with such a strong NRA and hunting base in this state how this bill continues to fail..... Well I guess I forgot about the socialist strong holds of Milwaukee and Madison. Just be happy that you still have your freedom in tact.

remi700 I hope by some strange reason you guys get it passed this time.If it does get voted down you will know how many ignorant people you have in your state. If they would read the statistics it would pass with flying colors.Of course the Media doesn't want this information in the news.Mark Whiz I have to agree we sure do have be prepared for the worst. If Reno gets elected as governor we'll all be fighting to keep our permits not to mention our guns.Ruger Redhawk

OK,
I did get the answer and yes I can get the Florida non resident permit and Louisiana will recognize it.As a bonus my neighboring states of Arkansas and Mississippi that do not recognize the La license will recognize the Florida permit. It seems a bit strange but I will be getting a permit from another state!!!
