Need advice on picking ammo for my new 7Mag.
My rifle season is coming fast and I need some good factory ammo for my new browning 7Mag. The two I am looking at most is federal premium's 160 grain Nos Part. and Hornady's 154gr. SP. Any opinions on this? What grain will work best for me? Most of my shots come from anywhere from 50 yds to maybe 200yds. Thanks

Like JD said, it depends on what you are hunting. If you are only shooting deer, than the cheapy hot core stuff from Federal works good. If, on the other hand you are after somthing bigger, go with the 160 Partition load from Federal. I have always had my best results, accuracy wise from Federal ammo.

The one that shoots best, either will work on deer. If elk are on tap I'd go with the 160 NP's. Personally have used 154's for moose and deer all were one shot deals with distance of 80-300 yards out of my 7 mag. Last week I stuck a Nosler Accubond 160gr into a spike elk and it did a great job, similar to a NP but a bit better accuracy in my rifle. Federal Prem. is loading the 160 AB bullet for the 7 rem mag and while not required for deer it should do a good job on them as well.

I am now officially confused. I called Federal myself and talked to the main tech man there and he told me straight up that the 160 gr Nos is what I need for sure.I told him that all my kills on deer are between 50yds out to maybe 200. He said it would be ideal. So,well,I don't know to tell you the truth.

Assuming you are talking about hunting Whitetails... A 160 gr Partition is a little over kill on the average whitetail, unless the bullet hits something solid, it will not expand. I have had excellant luck (before I started reloading) with the Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertips in 150 gr. I have (2) 7mm Rem Mags, and both love these bullets. They may not work for you, but its a place to start.

I use a 7mm mag and take shots in about the same yardage range as you. Mine are usually between 20 yards and 200. I have shot both Remington 140 gr Corelokts and 139 gr Hornady boattail softpoints. I love both of them, i havent noticed any diffrence in knockdown between them though the Hornadys group alot better on paper. Everyone i know that shoots the 7mm uses nothing bigger than 150 grains on whitetails. I am thinkin about using the Hornady interbonds this year.

I have thought about trying the hornady 154gr Sp.What about these? I have heard some stories about them not doing to well while hitting bone.
