Default want to buy a good flat shooting accurate caliber

I want to buy a new caliber for deer hunting. I already have a 30-06,243win, and a 30-30. I want a good flat shooting cartridge thats very powerful. I was thinking in the 300 magnums or 7mm mags. Anything thats very powerful.

Thanks for any replys!

Look at the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner or .300 Rem. Ultra Mag.

No need to go ultra mag. Get the 7mm Rem. Mag. since you already have a .30 cal rifle anyway. The 7mm would be a .257 cal.

Why mess around. Just get the 30-378 Weatherby. Just start at the top. That should handle any deer you come across. Really, for long range deer you can't beat the 270 or better yet the 280.

The 7mm would be a .257 cal.
When did that happen???? Where i come from a 7mm is a .284" diameter bullet, and it's considered 28 cal..

The .257 is considered 25 cal..

On the power scale it would be on a upper hand compared to your .30-06. Like you I have a .30-06 and a 7mm Mag. I prefer the 7mm personally. I can make the longer shots and it is a very flat shooting round that can kill game like Elk, maybe even moose with the right bullet

Here is a chart comparing the 3 calibers; .243, 7mm Mag, and .30-06. Note that I chose the regular Core-Lokt bullets that you will find anywhere as a comparison.
Ballistic chart for .243, 7mm Mag, and .30-06

You are right DM, I don't know where I got that from. I think they developed the 7mm Mag from the .257 caliber or something like that.

Anyhow, you are right, it is a .284 []
