is this a smart choice?

I've seen a Simmons 8-Point on a new Savage "package" rifle, and it was okay. Don't know how well they shoot--or how much you can expect from a $30 scope.

I don't think Savage would knowingly put absolute junk on their products, since it would reflect badly on them (if the scope won't hold zero, etc.), but if it were me, I'd either save up for something that's magnitudes better, or stick with what I've got (presuming it's working for you).

Don't believe you'd be gaining much, if anything at all. Like trading a pig fer a hawg!!

My choice would be a Leupold or better yet a Zeiss! Save your money and buy a "QUALITY" scope...

I agree, save your money and bu y a quality scope. The difference in a $50 doolar scope and a $200 hundred dollar scope is amazing. I got the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 with the ballistic ples for right under $200, and it came with a free 20x50 spotting scope. It's warranteed forever just like Leupold and the Ballistic Plex retical really works! No problem hitting targets out to 500 yards with my .270. The optics are far superior to anything else in the price range, and it holds zero very well. I even had a buddy that had to send a Burris back because his horse stepped on it. When he called Burris to find out how much it would cost to fix it, they said send it in, it's under warranty. He said, but my horse stepped on it! They said doesn't matter! 2 weeks later he had a new replacemant, how's that for customer service. I got mine from www.natchezss.com;)

If you don't want to spend too much get a bushnell elite 3200 or a bushnell trophy. Or the nikon prostaff is good to.
