I have always been a Leupold man untill I compaired mine to a friends Swarovski, while out hunting in Wyoming.I never thought there could be justice in the price difference, but I was wrong.I wish I never would of looked through the Swaarovski.I,ll keep my leupold for the 200 yard gun,but I am going toget theSwarovski for my 270 a bolt.I am going to look at the way the scope will always hold its value.

RE: Which Scope?

Well, it won't compete with a Swarovski, but I've become a Nikon scope fan. Well priced for the optics that you get. I have three so far, and until I can afford to even dream of a Swarovski, I think I'll stick with them.

I like Leupolds on guns that really matter like all my bigbores. I have so many rifles for varmints thatI would have $20,000 wrapped up in scopes in no time. Here is a 100 yd group shot with a Bsa Platinum 8-32 scope on a Savage mod 12 BVSS 22.250.I honestly don't think a Leupold could have done better, but than again nothing was at stake.

Interesting. I would have given that honor to US Optics. USO has more ability to make exactly what you want in a scope and they also seem to give you an objective opinion on things like side focus. Side focus is more convenient, but you give up some parallax adjustment precision to an adjustable objective. USO gives you that detail. Others just sell what they make. A USO can be personalized to your idea of best features. Check them out: www.usoptics.com

RE: Which Scope?

Got a story for ya. About 10 years ago I bought my first Leupold for hunting. I had several for competition, but this was the first one to go with me in the woods. I purchased a 3-9 with 50mm objective and mounted it on a Remington 788 in .308. On the second day of deer season, we had freezing rain in the AM. Later that day I tried standing on a log to get over it, (stupidity on my part). I slipped and fell flat on my back with the gun slung on my shoulder. The objective bell of the scope hit a rock with my weight on top of it. It looked like a case of road rash. I was sick. I just bought the scope 2 weeks prior and here I was destroying it. Fortunately, I always bring a spare gun hunting so I something to hunt with. Anyway, 3 days later I was alone at camp as most of the other guys had left and the rest went hunting in a different area. I couldn't stand it any longer. I had to know what damage may have occured. I took a target and stuck it on a piece of firewood, took out 100 yards away from the cabin, put the gun up on some jackets on the picnic table, and fired a round. I was thrilled to see that it hit exactly where it was when I sighted it in 2 weeks prior.
That made me a Leupold fan forever. Now I know that Zeiss, Swarovski, S&B make probably the absolute best scopes in the world. But they also cost a lot. Leupolds aren't exactly cheap, but I will never buy another brand of scope as long as I live.
By the way, Leupold told me to send the scope in to get it repaired if I want, but never did and it still has the big scrape across the objective bell. Still works like a champ.

Pentax definately makes a clear scope. i put one on my T/C which i bought at the end of last hunting season. i just hope it holds up to the upcoming years of abuse.

MeatNTaters 02-26-2007 05:25 AM

RE: Which Scope?

Yes, time will tell.
I have one on a .243 WSSM and one on a 7mm WSM, less than a year each.
If my Pentax holds up to these two, I will be sold for life.
Great price, great clarity.
We shall see.
