All Leupolds are (currently all dating back to mid 80's) on all my hunting rifles. All are still mounted on my hunting rifles. I do have Ziess Conquest scopes, that I just purchased over the holidays they are still in their boxes waiting to replace each and every Leupold, that I have mounted on my hunting rifles. I am so busy at work, and travelling so much, I hope I get a chance to replace them all, if any by a resonabile time to sight in and practice with the Ziess.I honestly don't know if I will get a chance to, the work schedual so far doesn't look to good for me, to allow for switching them all over and practice.I have a mandatory 6 payed weeks of work off, but as everyone knows if you don't want to be behind and stressed out when you get back you have to stress yourself out, work three times harder, and still make it all make it right before you leave. So yeah, right
now I guess my answer is Leupold.. The VXIII...and the straight 6X Classic!!!LOL.Husqvarna 3006 mounted with Leupold 6X is my goto hunting rifle. My Browning A- Bolt Stainless Stalker .338 is mounted with Leupold 1.5 x 6 power Custom Sako .311 CAN Imperial Mag is mounted with Leupold 2.5 -10 VXIII. These Rifles each have 3x9 Zeiss Conquest waiting for them. |
I would like a Zeiss but they want $58 for a sun shield! Yikes.
|
My current favorite rifles (couldn't narrow it to 1) and scopes are...
Remington 700 BDL LH in .270 Win with a 3-9x40 Swift (I have several of these scopes...I prefer them far more than the Leapould's and they are 1/2 of less the $$) Tikka T-3 stainless lite in 270 WSM topped with a 3-9x50 Nikon Monarch...really love this scope as well and gathers light nicely @ dawn/dusk. |

Zeiss Conquest!

Zeiss Conquest 1.8-5.5X38mm has served me well predator hunting the low light canopy of the Central Oregon Coast range.......impressive optics.
|
Regardless of which rifle I chose (couldn't do it in reality) I would keep a Shepherd Scope on it for all around hunting and shooting purposes.
|
Swarovski and Zeiss outstanding optics! The best scopes in the market in relation of optic quality!

Back in 1985 I purchased a Tasco 3-9x40 World Class Scope. I put that on a Ruger M77 in 7mm mag. And at the time, that was a fairly expensive (for the little I was earning then) scope for me. That scope has been on that same rifle for 27 years and I have NEVER had to adjust it. It has never failed me. It has never caused me one bit of grief. And it really is a good scope. Back then Tasco was a very reputable scope company that sold high quality scopes. And they still do I am sure. But I was so impressed with that scope, I saved money and put one of my Remington Woodsmaster 742 Carbine 30-06. Again, I have never had to touch that scope.
Since then I have purchased Leupold, Redfield, Bushnell, Nikon, Simmons, and all of them are great scopes. But it is hard to believe how well those old Tasco scopes have held up. |
I am a Leupold fan, owning about ten currently. Recently purchased a Bushnell Elite and was pleasantly surprised by quality and performance.

I have been a longtime Leupold user but have recently gone over to Nikon Monarchs 2-8 for our 416 Rigbys and the Nikon Slughunter 1.65-5 for a 500 AccRelNyati.
Why? The eye-relief is better designed. The Nikon 2-8 has 4.0-3.8" eyerelief which is OK, but the Slughunter has 5.0"-5.0" eyerelief throughout which is wonderful for a heavykicking rifle. (Even 5" eyerelief isn't foolproof, though, as a friend of mine demonstrated when shooting the 7000 ftlb rifle.) Eyerelief is not the main criterion, though, for a scope. A scope must have excellent clear glass, and these Nikons qualify on this score. Excellent. 95% light transmission on the Monarchs, 92% on the Slughunter. Finally, and as important, the scope must hold together. Judging from feedback of many shooters and thousands of big bore rounds, it appears that the Nikon are considerably more sturdy than even the fabled Leupolds. So I would say that there is a new kid on the block. |
I have a redfield because that is what my dad gave me for my birthday when I bought gun. It's been true though the many deer I have killed and though my love Affair with guns!!!
|
My favorite of all my scope/gun combo's is my old M-7 4X Leupold on my M98 in 243

Leo 3-9x40
That's the one on the SBE I listed as my gun choice. I''ve better on a couple rifles, but for a shotgun, even one as good as the SBE...... |
Vortex
For the money and quality you get.....you just can't beat a vortex.
|
I've killed lots of deer with a plain ole Tasco 3-9 x 50,so that's what I'll choose.
|
I'm a big Nikon fan. I have 5 Nikons. The newer Nikon Prostaffs are the best bang for your buck scope. Extremely clear and concise optics, comparable to Leupold. And affordable. 3-9x50 Prostaff is my favorite.

I have been a Leupold fan forever, but recently bought a Vortex. I am very impressed with the Vortex. I am a new loyal customer and would not hesitate recommending one to anybody.

We already know the best name brands. But the best bang for your dollar are multiple models from Bushnell, all under $299.

Wanting a new scope that was different, I asked the dealer to recommend one. It was a long distance order, he recommended the Minox ZA 5, 2.5 x 10 x 40mm. This scope is good out to 600 yards. It is a perfect match for my 7mm-08 Remington caliber with the Thompson Venture. Awesome combination!

Bushnell
Bushnell all the way!
Hey all can you come check us out at outdoor******.com/forum |
Vortex has an excellent warranty. The glass is good. Definitely worth the money
|
Voted Leupold but got to put in a plug for Vortex. I've got a 1st generation Viper 2-7x32 w/C3 reticle. If I could only keep one scope this would be it.

I have a lot of rifles and makes of scopes. But you said our favorite most used combo so it is my sako in 300Wby with a 3.5-10 with a 400mm objective. These 2 have been together since I bought the gun. Now the gun has seen some real lumps with that scope. The stock got broke in a quad roll over knocked on the floor and last fall fell from the fence when I shot. After a quick resight good to go again. Definitly my favorite pair so far. This pair have been together since about 1989.

Love the Nikons

No love for Burris? :)

I have a Leupold M4 4.5x14-50 w/ illum. rect. on my Sendero 300rum. The recticle has already paid off on several nights

Leupold Var X III 6.5x20 - 50 on Winchester M70 Heavy Varmit SS Fluted

I have two Meopta scopes that I like very much.

These are great scopes but I'd definitely go with Bushnell for many reasons. ATN and Night Optics are good ones too. I read a good review on these scopes and I'd say the features are sometimes unknown to many unless we read articles of what these scopes can really do. Anyone interested in reading the review can check it here. Spotting Scopes
