Default New 1911

For all you guys that love the 1911 but are just wanting a little more I just read about a new one you would really like.

Guncrafters in making a new 1911 in 50 GI. Yes a 50 caliber 1911. It fires 300 grain jacketed bullets at 730 and 890 fps depending one standard or high velocity. It holds 7+1 rounds and weighs 42 ounces. From what they say the recoil isn't any worse than hard ball 45 ammo or full house 10mm loads.

It's in this months American Handgunner if you want to check it out.

BTW, it costs $2,895.00 Too rich for my blood but it would be really cool to own one.

Here's a pic of the 50GI next to a 45 acp.

Not sure what it would be useful for, other than a "mine's bigger'n yours" gun, the cartridge length isn't longer than the .45acp, so it still wouldn't be legal for deer hunting in several states whether it's ethically powerful enough to use or not. I don't know that it'd tickle my fancy:

For that kind of money I could buy a PAIR of Desert Eagle .50AE's that are considerably stouter than the specs I've seen for the GI...not to mention the bbl swap platform.

I guess there should be some contender against the Desert Eagle though, it would be nice to make HEAVY pistols a bit more common and cheaper...maybe start a new class of IPSC like super major categories or something, a .50 bore class! Might be fun.
