I must confess to owning and using a.264 win. mag. and a 7X57 mauser and a ,35 whelen. In muzzleloaders I have a .58 cal musketoon and a side by side double 54 cal CVA. My next gun will probably be a Savage 99 in .300 sav. or a 6.5X55 sweed of some kind.

Well, I guess one rifle that I use, but have not as of yet hunted with would fit into this class. I have a Czech VZ24 8mm Mauser.

Like Briman I shoot some 6.5 X 55 and 8 X 57 ........ but also shoot the following.......
6.5 X 50 Japanese Arisaka, 7 X 57, 300 Savage (not very exotic) 7.62 X 54, .303 Enfield, 8mm/06, 8 X 56R but not all for hunting. Not that there would be anything wrong with any of them for certain hunting purposes.

I wouldn't actually consider 7mm-08 Rem and 280 Rem shooters to be conformists. I was the only one I know where I hunt to own and use a 7mm-08. I am working on a 257 Roberts though and that has slipped into shadows as a cartridge, undeservedly so. It is one of the better deer cartridges around.

Got out the 7.5 French Mas when I found a good ammo supplier at the gunshow. New brass and non-corrosive, 12 bucks a box! Pretty good buy for this cal. Of course the rifle is in like new condition, only dropped once...

Been shooting the 7mmStw/7mm-300 wby long before it became the "in" 7mm. Also a 30-378 wby improved long before the super 30's like the 300 rum and lazzeroni became the latest thing out. Let's see, the 6mm/284, 378 wby,6.5 Gibbs, 300 sav,416 Rigby, 375 JDJ, 358 JDJ, 218 bee, 300 H&H, 308 Norma, 35 Rem get taken out of the safes for annual shooting/hunting trips. These are not real popular in my neck of the woods but they do get the job done.......better than than my regular plain jane cartridges....no..... well maybe

I shoot all kinds of stuff. I have hunted with, and killed whitetail with the following oddballs.

6.5x55
7.5x54
7.5x55
7.62x54R 38WCF, BP/cast bullet loads
.45/70, BP, cast bulets
577/.450, BP, cast bullets

I don't really consider the 6.5x55 an oddball, but I see very few in the field.
