Uncomformist Favorites?

I am curious which calibers/guns you all favour in the Odd-Ball, or lunitic class. Other than the .243, .7mm-08, .308, .270, .280, 30-06, 7mm Remington Magnum, and the .300 Winchester Magnumns, and all the WSM's, what do others prefer. Are there a few guys using the .338-06, or .35 whelen? Your various "Big" magnums? Old lever chamberings? Or do any of you shoot a wildcat of your own creation? Here's where well find the good stuff:

I guess over the years i've had a lot of them, as at one time i was "wildcating" all kinds of cases and cals., includeing some that i designed myself.

Speaking of the 338-06, in the 80's i build one on a L.H. 700 Rem. action, Douglas bbl, stocked in nice French Walnut, ect., ect.. The first (3) years i hunted with it i shot (13) big game animials, includeing brown bear, moose, blk tailed deer, caribou ect... I still have the rifle, but i don't hunt with it anymore.

One thing i did with it, was to load 200 grain flat point bullets intended for the 33 winchester. I sped them up to the point where they worked like a 130 grain std. bullets out of a 270 Win., and that means explosive!! On rib shots on deer, it was like throwing bombs!!!!! Of course, i picked my shots and NEVER tried useing "that load or bullet" on anything bigger than deer.

Anyway, here's a picture of a nice bull caribou i shot with my 338-06 imp. loaded with 250 grain Seirra boat tails. I used the "first" version of that bullet and it worked pretty good on caribou, as they were more fragile than the later design.

IMHO, for most Americans, anything above the 30-06 will fall into that class!

Some might say the 7mm STW, .250 savage, .358 win,and 8x57 fall into that catagory.

I had a 7.5 French MAS I am quite sure that fits into the "uncomformist" slot.

I'm deabating on having a 6.5x.284 Norma and/or a .358 Norma Mag built later on this year.

Have them both built. You might want to have a 358-STA (Shooting Times Alaskan) built instead of the 358-Norma mag? I only say this because you already own a 7mm-STW. This would give you two of the three Layne Simpson rounds.:)

I considered the .358 STA over the .358 Norma. I think I will stick with the Norma because I can buy new brass, where as the STA I would have to form brass, which I don't want to bother with, I think?!?.

The 6.5x.284 is a rebarrel project. Have yet to decide on what barrel co to use. Looking into Montana barrels out of Kalispel or Mcgowwin (sp) out of St. Anne, ILL.

I can only due one project this year due to exspense's with my Elk hunt.

Whens that Cooper of yours gonna be done? You went with the Western Classic right?
