Sighting in / yardage ?
I don't know the trajectory of a 22 L.R..
So what yardage would you sight in a scoped 22 L.R for?
I'll be using it for Squirrels in open woods so shots could be from 5 yards to 75 + yards if I wonted to.
I've never sighted in a scope for a 22 before I've allways used open sights..

Well, there are lots of factors to consider, like which ammo you'll use for one. That can make a big difference. Assuming you use some of the higher velocity stuff, I would sight it in dead on at 50 yds., then check it at 25 and 75. My guess is you won't need to change your aiming point at 25, but you may need to hold over a bit at 75. Then again, that's a long shot at a squirrel.

I agree w/ UncleNorby, except that I do all my ammo/group testing and sighting-in at 25yds. and then after I have decided on a particular ammo selection, I do my final sighting in at 50yds.

Depends on what scope you're using, but if you're using a cheap .22lr scope, then you might want to check a few things out: I've had .22lr scopes that wouldn't adjust far enough to get me on at 75yrds, a little shimmy shake and a couple hours working the bases/rings around got me there, but it took a lot longer than I cared to put into it...
You ALSO will want to check the parallax range on your scope, certain .22lr scopes are only set to focus at 25yrds, sighting in at 50yrds then becomes a great chore and you'll believe your rifle is terribly inaccurate (shooting at that range with a 25yrd parallax scope is a lesson in futility in most cases as well). If you've got a scope like this, take it back or sell it, buy a good one with a 50yrd parallax.
I set most of mine at 50yrds, I shoot a lot of targets at 100yrds with my .22lrs. I've also got some that are set at 50ft (small bore comp rifle), but the 50yrds lets me hit all the squirrels within 50yrds, and still hit the targets right at 100yrds.
Setting them at their parallax range is a good practice whether you'll shoot that far or not, but there's not much sense in sighting in at 50yrds when you KNOW your shots won't be over 25yrds...in that case, sight in at about the middle up to 2/3 the range you intend to hunt (if you plan on 30yrds, sight in at 20yrds instead of 15yrds because a less than 10yrd shot doesn't happen as much). Kinda like sighting in at 100yrds in a centerfire that you'll only use out to 150.

RE: Sighting in / yardage ?
personaly ;I get myslef a scope like's on my big game rifle,(then they are all the same to the eye) I sight in all at 25 yards, and you can still hit at 50 if you shoot enough to see where it hits. most shoots will be at 25 to 35 anyway.
shoot a lot to see how your gun hits at all ranges from 25 to 100 yards. thats the name of the game, burn powder and have fun.
