Default Two barrels for H&R Ultra

Need help deciding on which 2 barrels for the Ultra. These are the calibers I own allready,220swift,243,270,7x57,8x57,30-30,300weatherby,450marlin. I am thinking along the line of a 223 and 7mm-08,but open for any suggestions. Zeak

Zeke, where did you get your 7x57 barrel? I'd really like to get a 6.5x55 or .260 for my Ultra but NEF doesn't make one. I currently own a .308 and am leaning towards a .223 to take to the range and maybe cull a few varmints.

The 7x57 is in a different rifle, not the H&R. I think that years back they did have barrels in 7x57. The 7mm-08 is to be out in Feb in the Acess. program. Zeak

Where'd you get the 220 Swift?, Is it one that they stopped making?
I have a 223, there's no reason not to get one, another really good choice would be a 25-06.

The 7x57 and 7mm-08 are pretty close ballistically , with the7-08 accually having a little advantage in velocity. The pressures are also a little higher in the 7-08.So unless you just want that 7mm performance in a short action cartridge you might think about a .308 which would give you a 30 cal. in a more modest velocity range than the 300 weatherby.Just my two pennies.

Well I like the hell out of my NEF 280 and 223. Therefore I would suggest those. The little hornet would be a fun gun to shoot as well and cheap if you reload. I am sending one of mine in for 22 Hornet and 45-70 barrels. I also need a new 30-30 barrel as I have a ton of brass and bullets.

I think that I will go with a 25-06 and 223 barrel. Have reloading dies for the 223 so only need the 25-06. Thanks for the help guys. Zeak

I tend to agree with douglas. I'd go with the 308 to fill the gap b/t the 300mag and 30-30.
