I've used several differant shotguns for trap. My favorite was a Browning Broadway O/U. Also used Remington 870 and 1100. My least favorite was an old Browning Doubles Auto. That thing was a finger pinching S.O.B.! For a person just getting started, I'd recomend one of the Rems. I liked the 1100 better than the 870 for doubles, I was used to hunting with the 1100 and would forget that I had to work the slide on the 870. If you go to some of the bigger shoots in your area(State shoot, spring handicap, fall handicap, etc.) you can usually find people that are selling their guns for whatever reason. Sometimes you can find a pretty good deal on a nice trap gun. If not, just get a field model 1100 to get started and save up for a nicer one down the road.
I just noticed that you're in OH. If you can make it to Dayton in Aug for the Grand American there are a lot of guns for sale there. Anything fom couple hundred bucks up to several thousand. I haven't been there in quite a while, but do remember all the guns for sale. I worked as a trap boy for most of the shoot so I could afford to shoot. Shot one of best rounds there after taking a trap arm to the head. Got back from the E.R. and went out and shot 200. Good luck in your search and enjoy the sport.

I've owned two trap guns....one a fine over/under and the other a Rem 1100
The o/u was a Winchester 101 but I'd suggest the citori today. Both of these guns was excellent trap guns.....
