Old Rifle ID.
hey all i was wondering if u could help me find info about this rifle. i inherited it from my great grandpa....
there tiny 3/8" symbols on it with GRI in the middle.
there is another smaller symbol which looks to be a crown with BNP or DNP under it.
on the right side on a piece of metal that goes from where the trigger is up to where the bolt handle is there is a crown with G.R.I. under it.
under those the date is 1944 and below that it says: No.1.Mk.III
the number 53303 is stamped twice on it.
my grandpa said it is the origonal finish on thre stock and barrel and both r in really good condition.
the stock is one of those ones where the buttstock is normal with a 7" long piece raised 1/2" from the stock...looks cool....for long distance shooting i assume.
it has one of thos rear sights where u slide a thing forward so the rear sight is about 2" above the barrel.
any info will help.
thx

PS. its a .303 that has very little recoil. my 20gauge kicks harder....

It sounds like a British Enfield.
Go to your local library or bookstore and look it up in Guntraders or another gun book. You should be able to finnd otu mor einformation there.
Good luck!

Sounds like you have a Lee Enfield #1 MK3 they go for 100-150 bucks depending on condition. That was my first deer rifle they sold in the Simpson Sears catalogue for $20. But were factory refinished and sporterized. Sporterizing lowers the collectors value. Does the stock go all the way to the end of the barrel and does it have the bayonet lug? Sporterized modles have the forend cut off to leave mostof the barrel free. Check out www.milarm.com they have prices .

Sounds like a Lee Enfield to me. Last one I bought, in great condition, only cost $90.Keep it, it's great for moose and deer out to 350yd. Not worth enough to go through the trouble of trying to sell.Hell, the one I have will probably outlast me
