RE: 6.5x.284
Hi DANTHEHUNTER,
For information on either the 6.5X284 or a number of variants of the 6.5X06 go to:
http://www.reloadersnest.com/index.asp
Scroll down the page and you will find various links to both of those specific cartridges....and several variants.
Hope this helps!

6.5X284 sounds like a great round. I have never shot one, but a buddy brought a .25x284 to the range one day. There was a lick of flame about 3' out the barrel every time he shot it and that was at mid day. What a hoot. I sure wanted one.

It would have been really interesting to have lived 50 or 60 or 70 or 80 years ago when "wild-cating" cartridges was a more meaningful endever. There are so many factory cartridges today that there is hardly a nich that isn't filled.
It is still fun I guess to build and shoot a wild-cat but do you really achieve anything new as far as balistic performance goes?
Like how does a 6.5 X .284 differ from a .260 Rem. or a 6.5 X 55 Mauser?
Now if you made a 5mm X .284 and could get some long bullets of say 75 or 90 grains you would have a long range varmint gun between the .22s and the .24s

RE: 6.5x.284
Actually the 6.5X.284 has slightly greater powder capacity then either the .260 Remington or the 6.5X55. Does that make it any better? Only the individual wanting one can answer that question.
And in truth the 6.5X.284 is no longer a "true wildcat". Several years ago Sako and Norma teamed to make it factory loaded. Though on a "very limited" basis. And if I'm not mistaken...Norma still produces small batches of 6.5X.284 from time to time! (Worth looking into.....if you're thinking about building a 6.5X.284.
Also, the 6.5X.284 has had considerable success of late at long range riflery (1000 yards) matches. A very well balanced cartridge!
Once again....best of luck!
