I bought a pair of alaskan guide binocs a couple of years ago and have been very happy with them. Now it is time to buy a scope and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the alaskan guides? If so, how would it compare to zeiss conquest, leupold vari-x II, bushnell elite or other similiar? Gonna put it on my 30-06 for now and eventually a 300 short mag (sorry, another victim of the rifle manufacturers marketing departments) Any and all comparison info is appreciated, looking through scopes in a well lit store is no way to make a decision.

I'd go with the scopes that you mentioned because of their reputation. Also if you look at what the guide series weigh I think that you'll be surprised. I've been a fan of leoupolds for quite awhile but have taken quite a liking to the 2x7 Bushnell Elite with the raingaurd coating, weighs about 12 ounces. I've got one sitting on a 338 right now.
