Default population explosion????

one thing ive noticed this year is there were 2 yotes in the bush we hunt....well one now....and he have found remains of a few turkeys and many rabbits. and the yotes have been there for 2 years now....a few years ago the rabbit hunting was good at best and once we first saw the yotes out there a couple years ago we thought it would be horrible rabbit hunting. BUT, last year and especially this year the rabbit population has at least doubled or tripled. rabbit, jack rabbit or squirrelll tracks can be seen every 5ft in the bush.....

this year so far we have already got 6 cottontails, 1 jack and like 10 squirrells and thats only in 3 outings...thats pretty good considering the bush is 3/4 the size of a country consession. plus we have seen bout 8 or 9 cottontails we aint shot and lots of jackrabbbit tracks....

so....has this ever happened to anyones land after coyotes have moved in? the small game populations seem to have exploded since the yotes moved in a couple years ago....does this usually happen wen yotes move in? or do populations decrease?

just figured this would be a good discussion topic

I have noticed in the past on the property I hunt in N.Y. if we were seeing and hearing coyotes, the small game hunting was gonna be great that year.Earlier this year during turkey season, we had a pack of at least 10 yotes on our property, and let me tell you we had grouse, grey and black squirrels cottontails and snowshoes coming out of our ears this past small game season.

shoot straight,and good hunting

More than likely, the increased numbers of small game animals are the magnet that brought the coyotes to your area....the additional game is probably not a result of increased coyote numbers.

I hate the yotes. Since really bringing them into Eastern Ky, I think the turkey pop is going down. I would rather they not be here.

See a coyote shoot a coyote! Nothin but trouble and yeah the fact that they are there says you have something to offer.

Yup, population cycles. The rabbits might be up, but the grouse are definately at their lowpoint in the cycle in my area.
