NEED SOME INPUT. I'M LOOKING TO PURCHASE A 454 CASULL CALIBER REVOLVER. THE RAGING BULL, AND THE SUPER REDHAWK ARE ABOUT THE SAME COST. ONE HAS A 7 1/2 BARREL, THE OTHER AN 8 3/8 BARREL. ONE IS FACTORY PORTED, THE OTHER IS NOT. THE ONLY HUNTING HANDGUN I OWN IS A S+W 629. I'D LIKE TO HAVE A FREEDOM ARMS MODEL. BUT I CAN'T JUSTIFY 2K DOLLARS. WHICH WOULD YOU FOLKS PREFER??

I own a few Taurus handguns and I really like them. If I were to buy a 454 Casull, I think it would be the Raging Bull. The compensator really cuts down on felt recoil.

Get the Ruger Super Redhawk. If you want the longer barrel the SRH is avaliable with a 9 1/2" BBL for the same money as the 7 1/2". The Ruger comes with scope rings. I personally think the Ruger is a better gun and built to last. Ruger Redhawk

i gotta say the super redhawk because it is a great gun. the barrel porting will definatly do permant hearing damage with those dynamite sticks in the chamber. i too wood like to have a freedom arms but i dont have a real job yet so i will have to wait.
plus scope rings already with the gun is an advantage to those whos opensighted long range shooting isnt as good as elmer keith

Never had much experience with Taurus revolvers, but I have been around many conversations about the ruger redhawk and super redhawk guns, and have yet to hear one complaint. I even know someone who was witnes to an intentional overloading of the charge in a super red .44mag it didnt blow. ( please dont test this, just because one held up doesnt mean they all will and I would hate to be the catyllist to a tragic accident. besides, it is second hand hearsay. )
Just my uneducated opinion!

Rugers ARE built more solidly. Authors of several reviews I've read over the years feel that they are actually overbuilt. They just don't wear out.
In case you didn't read my other post under "OK you Taurus Lovers", I'll repeat myself here...
In listening to conversations at gun stores and on the range, I've heard that the .44mags and .454's from Taurus are developing a reputation for having their cylinder latches come loose. Taurus has a lifetime warranty, so the fix is inexpensive, but temporary. If you choose a Taurus, just make sure the action is locked up tight before you shoot.
I'm not against Taurus, this is just what I've heard from the guys who handle the shipping on the guns that have some back to the shop. Good luck AFRO.
Keep 'em all in the Bull.
