The Ruger 10/22. They are reasonable, reliable ,accurate and many accessories available for them. You can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22.The Ruger M77/22 which is a bolt action and another excellent 22.It also has a bigger price tag. When I worked for a gun shop as a second job,I saw allot of the Marlin (Glenfield's) model 60's with jamming problems. They need to be kept cleaned to function properly.I'm not saying the Ruger's don't need to be cleaned but are more forgiving then the Marlin.
Dollar for Dollar the Ruger 10/22 is a great investment.

one of the first guns i have owned is a ruger 10/22. i beleve i payed $134 in 1986. sents then i have shot every thing from mice to coyotes, along with countless paper targets, cans, bottles, pvc fittings,...ect. i have put around 150,000 rounds through it, give or take 10,000. the thing will still put 3/4 to 1/2 groups @ 50 yards. the only mod ive done are 3x9x40 scope and butler creek folding stock.
