Ruger 77/44 vs Ruger 350 Legend for deer gun - experiences?
Hey all,
My dad has been having a hard time with his current deer gun. He has a Remington Wingmaster with 18" smooth bore barrel with a red dot sight.
I've convinced him that his current setup is better for shorter range shots. His shots are usually between 30 yard and 100 yard. He has been missing a lot of shots recently - maybe partially because he's getting older (75 this year) - but probably some because of his gun and red dot sight.
I found (2) guns I thought might be good for him. Light weight, low kick, and decent accuracy. I'd mount a good scope on either gun for him.
1) Ruger 77/44
2) Ruger 350 Legend
Anyone have experiences with these guns that they can share?
Thanks! Eric

The Ruger 77/44 is a fine rifle and would make a great deer rifle.
The .350 legend is very new, however I expect it will stick around. And should perform well.
If I had to guess I would think that your father would prefer the 77/44. But go to a shop, handle both and let him decide.
Bottom line: at 100 yards, both will kill deer.

why not spend a bit less and get a rifle with low recoil, a scope and three times the range
or a semi auto for less cash in that 350 legend

The .350 Legend might be new, but guys have been shooting similar cartridges for a long time.
The 350 will shoot flatter than the 44, but both will drop deer to 250yrds. Ammo for the 44 is cheaper and more prevalent.
So ultimately, flip a coin.
Personally, I’d pick up the 77/44, but I have a pretty extreme bias, favoring Ruger’s and favoring 44magnums.
