For sake of comparison, thousands upon thousands of deer have been killed by .357 mags which truck around 500 ft.lbs. at the muzzle, and only 400 ft.lbs. upon impact. Noting, of course, the obvious similarity in bullet diameter, weight, and construction, with all advantages in these classes favoring the Legend.

Ernie Bishop, as a particular example, has shared his experience (far beyond my personal comfort with .357mag) taking a beautiful pronghorn at 189 yards with a custom .357mag shooting factory ammo. If the paltry .357mag can manage game at that range, the 350 Legend will have no trouble, touting twice the punch.

I used to hunt with .357 max, then a 357/44 Bobcat mag, and now a .357/44 B&D Magnum in revolvers which don’t quite match the .350 Legend in a rifle, falling a couple hundred feet per second behind in short barrels. I consider a 180grn bullet running 1800-1900fps from the muzzle to be ideal for whitetail hunting out to 250 yards from a revolved. Again, performance surpassed by the .350 Legend in a rifle.

There are a handful of AR cartridges I would recommend for anyone outside of a Straightwall state over the 350 Legend, but it’s certainly a viable option in any state.

I have two rounds on my “next AR list,” just to say I’ve had them and understand firsthand any unique implications. The 224 Valkyrie and 350 Legend. Whether they earn a permanent spot in my stable would remain to be determined after wringing them out, but the Valkyrie, I don’t expect to keep. The Legend is a pretty hard “maybe.” I could use the same 180grn HotCors as I use in my 357/44 B&D, and there are several questions in the field I regularly have which could be well answered by a 180-220 grain bullet at ~2,000fps.

I’ll need a 35 or 45 cal suppressor though, and will likely put it on a 10.5” or 12.5” SBR upper.
