From what I've seen, it's supposed to take .357" bullets. .358" rifle bullets presumably probably work just fine. People use them in 357 Maximum single shots with no trouble.
The SAAMI spec for the .350 Legend is .357”-0.003”, whereas the .357 max, like the .357magnum and 38spcl, is .359-.003” for lead and .358”-0.003” for jacketed bullets. They all use the same .355” groove & .346” bore specification. Guys have mic’d the factory ammo to reflect .355” bullets being used. As noted, ODNR doesn’t care - they’ve listed it as legal for use, but it has raised the question. Personally, I never have been satisfied by using .358” rifle bullets in .357 max or .357/44 B&D, but drawing them down with the Lee sizing die is a quick, easy, and inexpensive step to ensure fit. |

Can you buy a .357 max AR-15 on the shelf at your local gun shop? That’s how it compares. |

many of the people reading the thread have access to an AR15 lower assembly purchase this upper and its a cheaper route to a decent whitetail deer rifle than purchasing a new rifle |

My question has to do with the ballistic differences of the two cartridges. I am not familiar with the 350 Legend, and was curious as to how it compares to the 357 Max.

seen one yesterday & was not impressed with the round & weapon. would be a great gun for a kid or beginner or even a small framed women. looks to good to aprox 125 yrds. i'll stick with my 450 bushmaster. everything i've hit with it went down drt furtherest it went was 5 feet.

I've watched one deer shot with the
.450bm. As always shot placement is key... But it dropped so quickly we had to dig dirt out of its nostrils for pictures. -Jake |
jake wait till i show you some pictures of what the 450 bm did on my deer. what devasation it does. like i said i've yet had one run when hit with the 450bm.it's a awesome round

well the information i got was thru one of your so called factory reps. & again it may shoot flatter than my 450 bm so will a 22 but does not have nearly the knock down power. everything i've hit with the 450bm has not gone further than 5 feet.and everything i've hit with the 450 bm has left nothing but devastation. i hit one @ 250 yrds & was a little behind were i was aiming & put her straight down. that's the only one i had to put a second shot into.

A 22 Long Rifle will push a bullet around 1100fps, whereas your Bushmaster with standard loads should be pushing 1800-2200fps, with an inherently better ballistic coefficient. It’s great you enjoy your 450 Bushmaster, but you’re displaying an obvious bias. Many, many cartridges will deliver fast kills on game, and the 450 Bushmaster certainly is not the least of them - implying anything with less energy would slip below some “cut off limit.” If you’d come in talking about your actual negative experience with the .350 Legend, or similar cartridges like a 357max, 38-55, 357mag rifle, 357/44 B&D, .358 Winchester, .375 win, etc, and contrasting those against your experience with the .450bushmaster, you’d have an objectively defensible case. But just saying “the 450 Bushmaster is more powerful, and I like it,” isn’t really any evidence the .350 Legend won’t perform well. Your 125 yard limit assertion, which is what I questioned, remains to be undefended by your assertions of superiority in the 450 Bushmaster. When “enough is enough,” then “more enough” isn’t really anything. Folks have been killing game with cartridges similar to the 350 Legend for over a hundred years - if it were insufficient for the task, we’d have figured that out a long, long time ago. |
