Default Sako 75 SS or TRG-S?

Got a sweet bonus at work and was thinking of buying a new rifle (not that I need one, its a want).

Looking at these Sako' s:

75 Stainless Synthetic in 300 Wby Mag

or

TRG-S in 30-378 Wby Mag (a Lazzeroni Warbird is out of the question, no where to get ammo and I don' t reload).

Any one here own one of these, which would you recommend of these two?

Thanks
340,

I have fired a friends trg-s in 30-378 and found that accuracy was not great but recoil was much more than my 300ultramags.

Hey Stubblejumper,

I read about that on the net also, that the accuracy wasn' t amazing for the TRG-S and that it may be due to the torque on the rifle screws being too tight from the factory?

How does your friend like the gun? It was attractive to me because of the caliber and detachable magazine.

He is actually scared of the recoil and does not shoot it often. My groups were much better than his with the gun.He has also had problems with the stock cracking at the front swivel stud.

Both points not a good thing, especially the stock cracking. May have to rethink this one a bit.

340 my TRG-S/Lazzeroni Warbird is going on her 4th season (was a first run from 1999) and the only trouble I have had with it is that deer season is' nt 12 months per year!!! I shoot the fastest and least accurate load from my Warbird, the 130 Xbullet at appx 3900-3950fps. After 3 boxes the groups tightened up to an even 1.5" . Thats as well as can be expected with that load and that was told to me by John Lazzeroni himself. I have some of his new 150 Lazerhead loads coming. This 150 Barnes is still " cruising along" at 3750ish fps but has shown groups of .5" ... Needless to say, I CANT wait to try them.

As for the recoil of the Warbird or the 30/378 they simply need muzzlebrakes, some practice and quality hearing protection (I bought a couple of GameEar IIs after a season of using muffs with my Warbird). I LOVE to shoot my Warbird (but yeah the $100 a box ammo is a byotch!), and thats a result of a KDF brake I had installed on it. I got a buddy to get a Savage/Lazzaroni Patriot lastyear and with 180s that lightweight lil jewel absolutely HAMMERS you each time you squeeze the trigger, MUCH more than my ' bird.

Since I got mine (my step-brother is a Lazzernoni dealer) just about everyone I hunt with is shooting either a Firebird, Warbird or Patriot and NO-ONE has had the first problem. And accuracy is SUPERB. One Firebird actually fired 10 shots into 10.5" at 1000yds! I also have a buddy who just got a custom Mark V in 30/378, but I have' nt heard yet how it performs. Either caliber is a THUNDER boomer and they are simply unmatched for longrange big gaming! I mean how much easier can it be than 3" high at 100yds, dead-on at 400yds and only 7" low at 500yds while still producing over 2k ftpds of energy at 500???

" Drop em where they stand!!!"

RedAllison,

That' s impressive! Going to check out Lazzeroni' s site and drop him an email for a Canadian Importer. Is yours a detachable Mag?

What scope did you mount on your warbird?

While some people like muzzlebrakes I will not use one as I will not hunt while wearing earplugs or muffs.Firing a brake equipped gun once without hearing protection will make your ears ring for hours.

340 when I got my ' bird in 99 there was only one scope I felt that was " appropriate" for what I wanted the rig to do. It is the Swarovski 6x24x50PVS and I LOVE the scope, the quality and performance is flawless. The only thing I wish it had were heavier reticles, at higher powers and longrange near dark the crosshairs can be harder to see. But to be honest there is now a more " desireable" scope available from Zeiss. It too is a 6x24x50 but is available with a lighted mil-dot reticle. THAT should be the cats ace for " poppin em" way out yonder. (And yes on the detachable box magazine.)

I dont mind having the brake on the gun at all. If I were to have to " track em" or shoot " up close and on the move" I could simply remove the brake and stick it in my pocket. The noise is TREMENDOUS with and without the brake. To many years of Harleys, loud music and guns have already taken their toll on my ears even in my short 32 years. I simply refuse to shoot ANY rifle without my GameEars or at least muffs anymore. The brake also tames the big ' bird as well. I shot it a few times off a table without the brake just to see if the point of impact changed (it didnt!). What I quickly learned was that it completely picked the front of the gun up 2 feet off the table, and that was while shooting of off a Harris Bi-Pod. The brake does' nt allow such muzzleclimb and makes it possible to shoot safely from blind and shooting house windows.

WHACK EM!!!

RedAllison, did you buy from a dealer out west or direct from Lazzeroni?

Thinking of putting a Bushnell 4200 4x16 by 40 on it. But the choices you mentioned would be awesome.
