I like my home made shooting stiks, called a bi-fur pod.

One pair I made so I can stand and I am 6'1" that works down to sitting on a stool or in a chair. Another set I use mostly for varmint hunting works from sitting on a stool or laying prone.
They even enploy a carrying clip. I use what we call mouse fur rather than leather padding.

I can only remember one unsupported shot in the last twenty years. It was a good shot, IMO more luck than skill.

If I can't find a support, be it kneeling, sitting, prone, a tree or whatever I usually pass.

I have a shooting stick.

My favorite is shooting from a sitting position, I cross my legs and use my knees as a support, done correctly it is really stable.

Looks like I may be sighting in with 150 grain, as I can't find anyone local with 180 grain in stock.

Next town over has some 180 grain in a different manufacturer.

Changing manufacturers may cause your point of impact to be off farther than changing bullet weight from 180 to 150.

I typically shoot Remington (what is usually available, not necessarily the best). Geko or some other brands I've tried out, have a noticeably different muzzle velocity. My best results are my home loads, which I usually load near Remington specs.

I'm zeroed now with 168 grain, I can go either direction and not worry about my point of impact changing much at under 200 yards, if I have to use store bought ammo in a different bullet weight..

Usually IMO when point of impact changes drastically, it is a combination of factors, a little here and a little there adds up. Different bullet weight, stable rest, form and even weather add up.

Fire a few check rounds and see how it performs, chances are if you do it right the difference in point of impact, under two hundred yards, is going to be less than 2 MOA. likely less than 1 MOA or maybe less.

I wouldn't get anal about it unless you are planning on some really long shots.

Last time I went to the range just to check my scope, I shot a group at a hundred yards that was tight, but an inch high. I took the caps off of my scope, the range master asked me what I was doing, told him some fine adjustments. He said get out of here, people are waiting to shoot and laughed.
