Regular old slugs Vs. Sabbots
#11
I have a Remington 870 12GA too, but I DON' T have a rifled barrel. I' d like to shoot slugs through it one of these days, but don' t know how well they handle. (I' ve shot everything from #8 skeet down to #00 buck and the steel shot #2 for ducks #BB' s for geese).
What style of slug would work the best in a smooth bore, regular, Rem 870 12GA? Thanks.....

Butch ; I would try just plain jane slugs, nothing fancy for a smooth bore 870. My son shoots a smooth bore and found it also to shoot better with Federal slugs. I get a better pattern with mine at 75 yards but his shots are still in the kill zone. Get a couple of boxes of diffrent kinds. Try them and good luck. But you would be wasting your money on the high doller slugs. OMO

Try winchester slugs for you 870 there cheap and pattern fine out of mine although I use a rifled choke tube. And I would say no to that full choke tube. Better off spending 10 dollars on a rifled one, thats why they make them. That slug would ruin the full choke tube.

The sabots shoot farther and cleaner but I have good luck with cheapies also. I bought a bunch of PMC rifled slugs at clearance from Gander Mountain. Just make sure you got a steel bore brush around.
