50 cal Bmg tracer ?

friend of mine tells me that the 50cal tracer round will not be visible at a 100 yard range. Any truth to this???

I know I've been able to see 22lr tracers past 100yrds, and I've seen a lot of video of light guns on aircraft that were shooting a lot farther than 100yrds...

It is hard to see a tracer at closer ranges. At long ranges they are easy to spot.
