Default Selling blues

I decided to sell off a few rifles and a handgun or two. Some of them I just don't need, others I just don't use very much. This is a big deal for me. I almost never sell anything although I have given a few away over the years to new hunters. Giving them away gives me a good feeling - selling them does not.

A few target rifles, deer rifles, big bores, scopes, and semi-auto pistols are going to find new homes.

An agent is selling them for me. Mostly they will go in auctions or private sales. It was time to thin the herd, but it sure feels strange.

On the bright side - no shotguns are going!

No, nothing like that.

Those are just about perfect to start off new hunters. If I find a good used one at a really good price I sometimes pick it up and use it as a gift.

What flavors of big bores are you parting with?

I will not have regret that they carried by others on their adventures.

The agent has had them for a few days so some of them may be gone already. I have approved minimum prices, signed, and am not involved in the sale. It just gives a fellow an odd feeling.

Now I will have plenty of room for a new M70 30-06 and a 416 Ruger!

I had even thought of building a new BR rifle, but have come to my senses. BR can eat a hole in your wallet quickly. It is kind of like golf, sailing, or becoming a junkie...

All gone. It surprised me which ones sold quickly or slowly, and what the final prices were on each. Some made sense to me but others just left me scratching my head in wonder.

The one that I thought was the best value sold last. It sat on the auction list with no activity for a long time until there was a slight reduction in the starting bid number. After the reduction the bidding suddenly went from zero to light speed quickly and sold for more than I thought it would.

No regrets. Glad it is over.
