So, everbody has seen the ad' s about how our bullet or factory load is SO accurate as compared to whoever. But am I the only one who is wondering what these ad groupings are shot out off? Rem. gold box shells are boasting great groups, but what are they being shot out of,hunting rifles or bull barrels? I' ve seen an ad that had an incredible group only to find out it was out of a 243. with slugs UNDER100 gr. So who hunts with a 243 under 100 gr. slugs?????
Lets get real, if these companies want to boast about their rounds why can' t we set a standard. If they want to boast about what they have we should have a commen cartridge in mind.And while I' m at it, how about when the companies do place the ad' s they specify what make/model the rounds they were shot out of?Vanguard gives us groups of 1 1/2" . Great,but what bullet did they use????

According to the Weatherby 2003 catalogue thier Vanguard rifles are guaranteed 1.5" three shot groups from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weartherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition. Good luck.

Marketing is all about selling, it rarely tells the whole picture but rather paints a picture you as a consumer whats to hear. No different than cars, vaccum cleaners...the list goes on. The only way a consumer can make an eductaed decision is to decide for them selves, unfortunately some items cost a lot of money and we learn the hard way. However ammo isn' t one of them, so you spend 30 bucks on a boxes of shells and they don' t do what you want...so you have some for practice, varmits, brass for reloading. Just ear mark it and say next. While I agree it would be nice to see the whole picture, it ain' t part of the ads campaign. " Who would buy buy this ammo, it will hit a paper plate, which is good enough to kill a deer" . Fact is most guns and ammo shoot way better than the guy pulling the trigger. Even reviews are only one mans opinion and really how unbaised are they?????[&:]

Just have to do it the only fashion way buy what you want baised on your opinion, but the only way to know for sure is through Trial & Error.

For what it is worth the green box ammo, has never produced the best groups out of any my guns...as such you' ll never find a green box in my cabinet. To many other good offerings that produce far better results. Trick is finding them for YOU![8D]

I' d say 99% of the factory' s use " pressure" barrels to chronograph, and shoot groups when testing their ammo. They are special barrels designed to measure the pressures from the cartridges. That' s one reason most .270 ammo will show a velocity of 3,019 fps (I think that' s what it shows) when in reality, in real life rifles, shoot anywhere from 2800 - 2950 fps.

Skeeter, that' s kind of odd about the green box. I assume you' re talking about Remington Core-Lokt. My old Browning Abolt .270 shot 3/4" groups with that ammo and Federal Premium. The Remington was quite a bit cheaper.

Plainsman, I think you now know why there' s a bunch of us that reload and own chronographs.

Also the value of forums like this....we can learn by the acts of others and not have to learn on our own purchases.
