Default Marlin 336 scope mounts

I've been looking for a good scope for my Marlin 336C .35 Rem. & from the research I've done, prob. a good 1-4x20 Leupold scope is going to fit the bill. I'm thinking of using the Leupold or DNZ mounts & if so, which ones - low or med?

myself, I would go with a scope with a larger objective lens. it gives more light gathering ability. also on the bases and rings you have to use what heights that will clear the scope above the barrel. just my opinion. hope this helps.

Low mounts would most likely work best with that scope. The stock design of your rifle is just perfect for use with iron sights. A high scope mount would not allow your cheek to fit properly on the stock unless you add a pad.

However, with a low mount you will see your iron sights through the scope more than a higher mount. Seeing the sights through the scope bothers some guys.

Is access to the hammer going to be an issue?

I use Weaver rails on my Marlins, and 40mm objective scopes usually fit on medium rings without clearance issues front or back. I do have to remove the rear sight on one of my Marlin leverguns using medium rings at a 40mm scope.

You'll need to use the hammer extension piece though, it's an absolute pain in the @ss trying to cock the rifle under the scope without it.

+1. Additionally, a big, huge "hubble-type" scope seems out of scale and may hinder handling (IMO).

I didn't mean to recommend a 40 mm scope, but id move up to a 30 mm and go to medium rings for a 336. also a hammer spur is a must too.

After more research, I'm now leaning towards a Leupold VX2 2-7x33 scope on the 336C. Will I be able to mount the 2-7x33 w/ low mounts or will I need medium? No problem w/ the hammer extension, already have one.

Low should do the trick.

Cool, if you call Talley directly and ask for the extra lows, it will fit the 33mm after removing the elevator or rear sight completely. I think you might like them better then DNZ.

A 2-7, 1-4, 2.5x, or 4x Leupold all work great for that rifle. I've used them all on Marlins but the ones I find particularly pleasing are the FXII 4x, and VX3 1.5-5x 20mm.

Best of luck
