Default Medium & Big Bores

For whatever reason I have a huge attraction to both medium and big bore cartridges. I've owned many over the years and for now have settled for this line-up. I've used them all for hunting and have taken game with all but two of the ones here. Anyone care to give a guess as to what this line-up is?

I'll give it a shot. From left to right:

308 Win
348 Win
358 Win
350 rem Mag
35 Whelen
9.3x74R
405 Win
444 Marlin
45-70 Govt
450 Marlin

How did I do?

Very well, about 70%. But I'll let a few more answer before naming all of them.

Good post! I wouldn't do any better than flags did. Give it a but there's some guys here who could probably guess some more.

I've taken another look at them. I'm pretty sure the last 7 (with the exception of #7) in my guess were right. So that leaves me with #1, #2, #3 and #7 as questionable. I'm sure, of the first 3, one is the 358 Win and now I think one of the others is the 356 Win. So, I'm now going with

1) 308 Win
2) 356 Win
3) 358 Win
4) 350 Rem Mag (the belt gives it away)
5) 35 Whelen
6) 9.3x74R (long skinny case and rim gives it away)
7) 375 Win (bullet doesn't look big enough to be 40 caliber)
8) 444 Marlin (short flat bullet gives it away)
9) 45-70 Govt (rim gives it away)
10) 450 Marlin (belt gives it away)

So, my score now is..... ?

For what it is worth, if you like calibers along this line you should check out the 9.3x62 Mauser and the 375 H&H. I've got both and they are incredible calibers. I'd hunt anything in the world with either one.

90% ! Very good, but #1 is a .338 Fed (medium). I have owned and taken game with the 9.3x62 (CZ 550 FS), but sold it to help finance my dream of owning a nice double rifle in the 9.3x62's ballistic twin, the 9.3x74R. No game yet with the new double rifle or the 45-70, all the others have been successful. If I do decide I need a .375 added, it will more than likely be the .375 Ruger.

I love the big bores too. But I like the oldies. I've owned 35 whelen, and 405 win. But my all time fav is the .45-70. I shot quite a bit of game with this old cartridge and it still knocks critters flat on their butts with a solid whoomph. Even the big nasty ones. I've always longed for a 358 win but never got one. Same for a 375 H&H.
