RAPID-FIRE
Your range will depend a good deal on the bullet weight you're useing. With weights in the 300-350 grains the performance will be very close to the .30-30. I hope that this is of some help.

If you reload or use +p ammo you might be able to push the range alittle. I use the factory 300gr and i pefer my shots to be at 100yd or less about 125is as far ai i will tryto shot. my balistic chart says that for it to be on at 150yd it has to be sited in 5 in. high at 100yd

Greets,
Well, this post needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but:
I was honored with the chance to shoot a lever gun, dont remember which brand, in 45-70. The owner handloaded all his rounds, and he had a mid range bullet size that heloaded to choot nearly flat at 100yds. Kicked like a mule but with some time to practice I would have felt comfortable using that gun to 200 yards plus, ( given time for my accuracy to improve )
He had one round he loaded for it, I dont remember what it had in it, but I had thumped out around 7 of the other loads just playing, he smiles and hands this one round too me " try this" he says. I blew my target (A rock about 100yards out and down in a pit) into itty bitty little pieces, AND nearly broke my shoulder, or so it felt.
So being the tough guy I am ( yea right ) I smiled thru the tears I was hoping no one saw and told him "Cool, here ya go i dont want to wast all your ammo" And went back to my mild little .50 muzzleloader.
Just my uneducated opinion!

Yes the 45-70 in the Marlin is good upto about 200yds. I've shot my brothers gun and he hand loads for it, and it does kick like a mule. My 300 weatherby doesn't kick near as hard. Even my bother says it's the hardest kicking of all his guns, he shoots a 340 and 30-378 weatherby also.
