Yes the 45-70 in the Marlin is good upto about 200yds. I've shot my brothers gun and he hand loads for it, and it does kick like a mule. My 300 weatherby doesn't kick near as hard. Even my bother says it's the hardest kicking of all his guns, he shoots a 340 and 30-378 weatherby also.
