trouble changing redfield scope rings

i am trying to change the rings on my gun to put the scope lower on the barrel, but the redfield rings(turn in style) screws wont budge so that i am unable to get the scope off...i even stripped them a little where the allen screw goes in...somebody evedently used locktite on them or something ......thought about trying to drill them out...any suggestions..i dont want to damage the leupold scope on top....thanks

I had a similar problem but it was the screws on the Redfield base. I ended up bringing the rifle to a gun smith and gave him the headache. He drilled the heads out as you mentioned. You can try penetrating oil, it might help or do as I did. Good Luck..

Absolutely. Take it to a gunsmith. I think An Impact driver would get the screws loose but it may damage the scope. Drilling the heads off the screws should work as well.

Unless you have the proper tools and the ability to use them, I' d suggest that you not work on the rifle. There are times whe the expence of a gunsmith is the cheapest way to go. A good gunsmith should be able to save the base ans rings. Request that he replace screws with the trox type. I like them much more than either slot or allen head type screws. [&:]Good luck.
