My wife has hunted with me for the past 17 year. She has used several different calibers through the years. This year she been using a 300wsm. This is the largest caliber that she has ever used. I took her out during the late summer so she could try it out and she had no problems handling the recoil. She shot one deer and a hog with it. Her main rifle is a 30-06 or 257 Roberts. She is 5.4 and 145lbs.

Gun for the wife??? Hmmmmm I wouldn't want to run the risk of wingin her as that would just pisser off & she'd likely lawyer up (or worse, just wait til I go to sleep). I believe for the wife I'd use a 500 S&W!

I've taken elk with the 7mm-08. Got one for my son when he turned 12. It will do the trick.
However . . . it's recoil isn't much less than a .308 or '06. So if she is new to shooting . . . I'd vote .243 and not take anything bigger than deer/antelope.

A .243 is an ideal Caliber with less recoil and it will put a Deer down just fine,as far as the 7mm-08 it would be another great choice and if You want to tone down the recoil even more simply buy the Remington Managed Recoil Shells and Your have a lighter recoil Rifle that has more knock-down power....and we're talking Bolt-Actions to use the Remington MR shells.

I would look at the *New Savage Lady Hunter Rifle....it's made to fit a smaller stature Hunter,is well made and a great looking Rifle!I really like the flatter oil finished walnut stock and overall appearance of it!
