Lever action ?' s
#21
The levers have been covered pretty well. I have had almost all of the ones talked about here. I still have quite a bit of new brass for the 348 and 356 as well as the 30-40 and 218 Bee. I can,t use lever very well anymore as my left shoulder is unusable when I have it up that high. A pump is all that I can really use well. I can use a LH bolt but only if I bring it down to waist level. I think I have 32-20 brass too.

The 307 win was only produced by Winchester in the Mod. 94AE. Marlin had listed it in their catalog as an available chambering but never produced any. The BLR can use pointed bullets, it' s a box magazine while the 94' s and Marlins are tubular mags. and cannot. The BLR also has a decent number of chamberings available.

Thanks for all the great info. That' s exactly whyI like this board so much- sincere and helpful information without all the sarcasm of some boards.
So, one more off the wall question. Has any company ever made a lever action in .257 Roberts? I have a soft spot for the little Roberts. Could the Browning BLR be rechambered to .257?
What sort of scope would you mount on a lever action rifle?
Thanks again for all the help. Keep it coming.

I don' t know if Browning ever chambered its BLR for the .257 Roberts. But you could have one of Browning' s " long action" lever guns rechambered for the .257 Roberts. (It would not fit in the short action BLR' s which are limited to case length cartridges of .308 Winchester length...ie.51mm in length.) Of course the Roberts originated with the 7X57 and would not fit the shorter action lever gun. Browning chambers the lever in a " long action" which handles .270 Winchester, .30-06, etc. One of these could be rechambered by a competent gunsmith to .257 Roberts without very much difficulty, (though it very well may not be cheap!).
I don' t know how determined to have a lever in .257 Roberts you are....but you should be able to find a Savage 99 in nice conditon chambered for .250/3000 (.250 Savage) for a very reasonable price. I' ve owned a .250 and it was a very capable quarter bore. It would be a way to have a quarter bore for much less than a conversion!
Let us know what you decide...and good luck!
P.S. You could mount nearly any scope you wanted on either the Browning BLR or the Savage 99. Though I would personally probably look at something like a compact fixed 4, a compact 2X7, or maybe as much as a compact 3X9. I have personally owned and used several Burris Compact 2X7' s and found them very nice scopes indeed! Either of the compact variables would work great on a lever quarter bore! On the other extreme when we scoped my wife' s Savage 99-358 (chambered of course for the .358 Winchester) we went with a Weaver 1X3 variable and never felt underscoped.

Get a Marlin 45/70. I am deadly with it to 200 yards, and the knockdown power is incredible. She' s a bit of a kicker though, so it is not for the meek. It can take any game in the world, and if anyone says otherwise go to this site and clcik on trophies www.garrettcartridges.com

The BLR short action was chambered in .257 Roberts for a short while. Relatively few of these rifles were made, and they do stimulate some collector interest.
You should be able to rebarrel a BLR short action to .257 if you wish.
