I just got a couple new guns and one is a Browning A-Bolt in 7mm WSM. I put a new Nikon UCC scope on it too. The dealer told me that if I sight in (with Winchester 150 grain Super X shells) at 2" above bullseye at 100 yards that I' d be cool from me to 400 yards.
Now...I have had 300 Win mags and I am wonderin' how hot this 7mm WSM really is. He said this baby is more accurate than a Rem 7mm Mag (which I have had also).
Any imput on this caliber/gun combo would be cool. I was also thinkin' about trying some silvertips too.

You have every right to expect your new 7 WSM to be equivalent to a 7MM Rem Mag in all respects.
Has anyone made any promises ??

What a load of crap.Sighted in 2" high at 100 yards will leave you in the neighbourhood of 15" to 17" low at 400 yards.Accuracy is determined by the quality of the gun and the actual load used not by the cartridge. If your dealer actually told you as you say find another dealer as this one is a scammer that just wants your money and will tell you whatever it takes to get it.

The dealer must have been talking about the 7mm Ultra Mag, NOT the WSM. The Ultra Mag I was reading about in a recent hunting mag. and they stated, with the 140g. bullet you could be sigted in around 2.5" high at 100 yards and have an effective kill range (within 6" circle) out to near 400 yards. I think it' s pushing the bullet around 3,400 fps...lemme go check my Nosler book...
Ok, here' s the deal. If you are shooting 140g. Balistic Tip at 3,400 fps and you sight in for a 300 yard zero you will be 2.6" high at 100 yards, 3.2" high at 200, and 7.4" low at 400.
Here' s some good info;

He has a great site that is referenced here often including info about all the WSM cartridges. Or just do a search on Google.com like I did to find that site and there is lots of info.

He was probably talking about the 7wsm as the accuracy claims are some of the B.S. that winchester and browning are spouting. He either did not know any better or didn' t care as he just wanted to sell the rifle and take your money.Find a new dealer as this one is either an idiot or a scammer and either way you can' t trust him.

Just for the helluvit let pi$$ off every one on the forum and make the following statements.
There' s no more useful cartridges in .308 cal than the .30-06..there' s more powerful ones but for a very very few shooters.
There' s no better cartridge in 7MM cal than the .280 Remington.......more powerful maybe.....
The .270 Winchester is still king of the roost in .277 diameter
and the biggie.......there' s no cartridge better than the .375 H&H when it comes to putting the stop on really bad news. More power is rarely usable to anyone.
You bought a fine firearm in the 7MM WSM and I hope you enjoy the heck out of it.....but please don' t think it' s some kind of majic at 800 yards.

what animal are you shooting at 400 yards away anyway? Most animals are taken under 100 yards. I would enjoy the hell out of your new purchase and not worry about what some underqualified individual said. Have fun!!

At 0-400 yards....whitetail. I wasn' t claiming 400 though....the dealer was using that as a reference.
Won' t be the first time. I shoot a lot out at 200-325 when field hunting. Lay on the side with a bipod or steady stix....and let her fly. I don' t take a shot that I am iffy about....
My farthest shot on the field I hunt is 325 and I have dropped a few deer out of that corner area.
