I don't know why the heck Remington doesn't push this round. It's a 260 REMINGTON,they developed it,it should be chambered in almost every rifle they offer! I don't understand Remington sometimes.

It's a shock that they chambered it in 280.

Here's a quick search...

The Imperial Magnums were made in 7mm, .300, .311, .338 and .360. The .311 was .303 British diameter and Speer made a 200 grain Grand Slam for a short time. The .360 used .358" bullets. The Remington Ultra Magnums are a shameless knock-off of the Imperial Magnums and there's hardly any difference in performance. I've got all of them in my cartridge collection and I can measure the cases if you want. Later, the name were changed to Canadian Magnum and a .375 added. There's reloading data for the 7mm, .300, .338 and .375 Canadian Magnums in Cartridges of the World, 9th Edition.

It seems the 7mm-08 is much more popular than the .260rem. Although from case size the 260 makes more sense than the 7mm-08, although I think they're probably very close either way, and perhaps the 7mm can shoot some heavier bullets more easily.

a 6.5-284 and the old 284 seems like it would make more sense than either of these 2, or another option at least, in short action versions... vs benchrest long action types...

Wish it had a detachable magazine.

I think I'd opt for the 280 in this rig. The 30/06 is a great round, but I have one. The 308 is great, but the 30/06 gives just a hair more ... not enough to make a difference to the game, but it can be measured. If I didn't already own two 30/06's I'd go with that b/c of ammo availability.

But I don't yet own a 280, always wanted one, ...is a great round and caliber with a ton of bullets out there for the handloader.

wonder why they stop making great rifles? or the mountain titanium? even if they just produced a certain # each year, and when they sold out, you just had to wait til next year/next production run?

probably comes down to making $.02 less per rifle and it's just not worth it.
