To me it sounds like you are stuck on the model of rifle rather than the caliber. I can't image the 243 or the 7mm RUM weighing that much more than than this Rem. Mountain rifle; unless they are target. For me I would rather take four pounds from my gut than worry too much about an extra two pounds on the rifle. And of course, these two calibers you already have are more than plenty; 243 for deer/sheep/goat/antelope and the 7mm RUM for others for larger deer (mule, caribou, elk, moose) and even some of the larger critters (grizzly and large black bear).
Ultimately, all this logic means nothing if a person just "wants" a new rifle. Sometimes I buy stuff not because it makes such good financial sense but because I "want" it. Have fun and be safe! |

The 2012 Mtn. SS is offered in both 7mm-08 and 308, as well as 280. Which the 280 would be my pick. Even in a LA it's still 6.5lbs
That's nice.......wish they would up date their website. Did they make the mountain rifle with a Bell & Carlson stock or is it still the lami stock? Read somewhere that they did away with the laminated stock.I personally liked the lami stock. |

They have so many errors on their website. And isn't a laminate stock on a mountain rifle kinda an oxymoron? aren't laminate stocks the heaviest of all stocks usually? they definitely need a lightweight rifle offered since they ditched their mountain titanium. something like the cdl-sf with a lightweight synthetic stock would be nice, ie essentially the mtn titanium minus the titanium would be a sweet option, also no short action cartridges in long action receivers please. What cartridges is the 2012 mtn chambered for? just saw it online with a synthetic stock...but not on remingtons website... |

What was the price you seen for it? I don't know why they don't make the .260 in a mtn rifle. Seems like a great combo to me. I'd buy one if they did. Hey Stapher...what type stocks will be available, or do you know? Thinking about picking up a 7mm-08 for my son, in LS. Assuming its still available. I have a .280 mtn rifle I bought new in 1987...best gun I've ever owned. Perfect deer hunting setup, imo. :happy0001: |

lets see, the CIM cases are basicly RUM cases semi rimmed (they both come from the 404) and you get 600 fps more velocity with a CIM than a 300 RUM gets with a 200 gr. must be magic!
